Treatments for children

Early orthodontics

Early orthodontics treats tooth alignment problems, crossbites, deep bites, open bites and jaw development problems in children. A first assessment is advisable between ages 6 and 9.

What problems can be detected and treated?

  • Tooth position and bite problems: detecting and correcting irregularities in how the teeth line up or fit together.
  • Improper jaw development: treating problems related to the growth of the jawbones.
  • Bad habits: detecting and correcting problems caused by prolonged childhood habits, such as excessive pacifier use or thumb-sucking.

At what age can treatment start?

It is advisable between ages 6 and 9, when the upper and lower incisors and the first permanent molars come in. This is the recommended age for a first orthodontic assessment, as it allows problems to be identified and treated early.

The specific treatment and the best time to start may vary according to each child's needs.

Benefits of orthodontics for children

  • Preventing future problems: early correction can avoid more serious complications and more invasive treatment later on.
  • Proper jaw development: guides the correct growth of the jaws, ensuring a better bite and optimal chewing function.
