Complex cases: why we start with braces
Clear aligners are a very good tool, but they do not solve every case on their own. When the bite needs correcting, or there are major rotations, a lack of space or root movements, braces offer a level of control that is hard to achieve with aligners alone. That is why, in complex cases, we start with braces and, once the case is on track, move to aligners for the finishing stage.
When the technique is chosen for comfort or looks rather than by the diagnosis, treatment can drag on for years without the expected results. We see patients who have spent a long time in orthodontic treatment without progress and, at times, with consequences that cannot always be reversed.
